She bolted upright from a peaceful sleep in her bed. A large crash from the kitchen the cause of her alarm. It had to have been early as there was little or no light filtering into her room. She suddenly noticed that her bed, made of a crude wooden frame with a stuffed straw mattress, trembled, jerked and shook. She grasped the sides of her bed in an attempt to keep her atop the mattress as the fierceness of the shakes threatened to dump her upon the dirt floor.

As quick as it had began, the shaking seemed to stop. She sat still as if paralyzed, her ears straining to hear, for what, she was uncertain. Her mind screamed in warning. 'STAY WHERE YOU ARE.' It screamed. Safe was where she was, under her warm blanket, in her warm bed. But she knew... The responsible thing was to get up and look through the little cottage for damage.
